A total of 23 games are coming to PS5 this week, while PS4 players get a slightly shorter list of 13 titles. Alaskan Road Truckers: Highway Edition does exactly what it says on the tin, challenging players with extreme weather, truck maintenance issues, and risky shortcuts as they try to make money as an Alaskan Trucker. Other simulators offer experiences such as a thief or, on the other end of the scale, members of the emergency services.

Bubble Bobble III makes its way to modern-day consoles more than 30 years after its initial release. With the aid of magical parasols, Bubby and Bobby must save their neighboring planets from an evil menace. Other notable games include the dungeon builder Naheulbeuk’s Dungeon Master and the visual novel True Colours – A Date With Deception.

PlayStation Shapes Collection Figures

Sony has teamed up with Spin Master to launch a new range of collectible figures based on PlayStation Studios franchises. Dubbed the PlayStation Shapes collection, the figures include Aloy and Varl from Horizon: Forbidden West, Kratos and Atreus from God of War, and Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima.

When will the Shapes Collection figures be released?

The figures from the Shapes Collection will start shipping from the PlayStation Gear store on August 15, 2024, in Europe. The PlayStation Gear store for the United States currently has a placeholder shipping date of January 1, 2025; however, Sony’s Vice President of Network Advertising, Loyalty & Licensed Merchandise, Grace Chen, has said the figures will ship in August. All of the figures are available to pre-order now.

All five of the 6-inch adjustable figures have been created in collaboration with developers who worked on the games. Each has interchangeable accessories and can be posed in many different ways thanks to dozens of points of articulation.

Horizon’s Aloy is the most expensive of the five at $49.99. She has 42 points of articulation and 15 accessories that include interchangeable face plates, hands, a precision bow, spear, arrow, and quiver. Her companion Varl is priced at $29.99. He has 32 points of articulation and an unspecified number of accessories that include his axe and two sets of hands for various grips.

Kratos and Atreus from God of War are also $29.99 each. The former has 31 points of articulation and accessories like the Leviathan Axe and Blades of Chaos. Meanwhile, Atreus has 33 points of articulation and comes with a bow, arrow, and interchangeable hands.

Completing the collection is Ghost of Tsushima’s Jin Sakai. Also priced at $29.99, he has 32 points of articulation. His collection of accessories include his katana, tanto, mempo mask, and an additional sword.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Unbound difficulty

Dragon Age: The Veilguard will come with four difficulty levels, including the new Unbound difficulty that offers a range of customization options.

EA has now explained some of the gameplay aspects that players will be able to change when using the Unbound option, although some still remain a secret for now.

What is Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Unbound difficulty?

The Unbound difficulty option is the brand-new fourth difficulty mode that BioWare is implementing into Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Game director Corinne Busche told Game Informer that the mode is “an option to make sure players of all abilities can show up” as the world of Dragon Age opens up to all types of players.

There will be many different settings that can be customized in Unbound mode, including plenty of combat options. Aim assistance can be enabled, and those that struggle with this can even enable auto-aim. The default option for parrying attacks from enemies can be made easier or harder. Enemy health can be changed to alter how much damage is dealt to them, while the damage received from enemies can also be adjusted to the point where there is a no-death option. Finally, enemy pressure can be tweaked.

None of the customization options outside of combat were detailed right now, although Busche confirmed there will be “similar accessibility and approachability options” for other factors.

Outside of Unbound difficulty, players have three other choices. Storyteller mode will let players concentrate on the story rather than combat, while Adventurer will provide a finer balance between the two. These seem to be the new names for the Casual and Normal difficulties available in previous installments of the franchise. Players can switch between Storyteller, Adventurer, and Unbound difficulties at any time during their playthrough.

The final option is Nightmare difficulty that increases the difficulty of enemies in combat. Previous games have also enabled friendly fire in this mode, although this isn’t a certainty for The Veilguard. The exact details of the latest version of Nightmare mode haven’t been revealed yet, although we do know that it is a permanent choice. Once Nightmare mode is selected, players can’t switch to another difficulty in the same playthrough.

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess Okami Items

During the Capcom Next show, the publisher released a demo for Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess that allows players to unlock Okami tie-in items. By working together and completing a challenge, the Okami collaboration weapons and costumes can be unlocked for free in time for the game’s release later this month.

How to get the Okami items for free

The Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess demo offers several early stages from the main game that can be replayed as many times as wanted. While doing this, players have to collaboratively complete two challenges across PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. The deadline for completing these is 3:59 BST on July 18, 2024, when the demo will be removed from the PlayStation Store.

The first challenge is to exorcise the defilement or the Seethe to drop a total of one billion crystals in the demo. Completing this will unlock Amaterasu’s Soh costume and the Thunder Edge weapon.

The second challenge is to find 15 of the hidden Lucky Mallets. Those who find the mallets must then take a photo of their achievement and post the picture as a reply to the campaign post on X (formerly Twitter). Completing this will unlock Waka’s Yoshiro costume and a special Okami collaboration soundtrack. Knowing that Twitter integration has been removed from PlayStation and Xbox consoles, Capcom says that players can take a picture of their TV/monitor screen via devices such as smartphone if trying to transfer an image via the console’s photo-sharing feature is too cumbersome.

The game’s official website features a progress tracker for both challenges, although this doesn’t update in real-time. If the two challenge targets are met, the items will be delivered in a free title update at launch on July 19. Capcom didn’t specify what would happen if players didn’t manage to complete the challenge, although we assume the items will be available from the PlayStation Store at a later date.

New PS5 PS4 Games July 1 2024

We enter the second half of the year on a quieter note, although the list of new PS5 and PS4 games for the week beginning July 1, 2024, does have some notable titles. The highlight of the week is likely to be Zenless Zone Zero, the latest game from Genshin Impact developer MiHoYo. There’s also free-to-play shooter The First Descendant and the latest in the The Legend of Heroes: Trails series.

All PS5 and PS4 July 1 to 7, 2024 game release dates

Here are all of the PS5 and PS4 games currently set to be released throughout the week of July 1 to 7, 2024.

PS5 Games

  • The First Descendant (July 2)

  • Bouncy Chicken (July 5)
  • Cyber Citizen Shockman Zero (July 5)
  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak (July 5)
  • Platform Twister (July 5)

A total of 16 games are coming to PS5 this week, while PS4 players get a slightly shorter list of 13 titles. Hoyoverse’s urban fantasy action RPG will be hoping to replicate the success of Genshin Impact. It’s off to a great start as the target of 40 million pre-registrations has been smashed and players can still grab the rewards by signing up before the game’s release date.

Elsewhere, third-person online co-op looter shooter The First Descendent will pit player-controlled Descendents against alien invaders taking over the planet of Ingris. There’s also The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak; the first game in the Trails Through Daybreak story arc finally makes its way west after a release in Japan two years ago.

Lost Records: Bloom & Rage delayed

Don’t Nod has delayed the release date of its upcoming narrative adventure Lost Records: Bloom & Rage to avoid the release of the next installment of Life is Strange. Life is Strange: Double Exposure is set to be released on October 29, 2024, and Lost Records’ new release date window will avoid this completely.

The new Lost Records: Bloom & Rage release date window

Lost Records: Bloom & Rage will now be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in early 2025, after the developer performed an “in-depth assessment of recent trends and developments in the industry.” The game will be released in two parts, with the second part to follow a month later. This means it is now avoiding its previously announced late 2024 release date window.

Don’t Nod’s CEO Oskar Guilbert said: “We know that many of our fans are eagerly awaiting this game, just as they are the recently announced next installment of Life is Strange. Let’s give both titles the space they need to be enjoyed by our players within the large community we have built. We firmly believe that the wait for Bloom & Rage will be worth it. We look forward to sharing this new adventure, which we hope will become another memorable chapter in the DON’T NOD universe.”

Bloom & Rage will be the first game in Don’t Nod’s new Lost Records universe. The game is set in the fictional town of Velvet Cove during the summer of 1995. Swann, Nora, Autumn, and Kat are four high school friends spending the summer together. Players assume the role of Swann, who films her friends through her camcorder.

However, a downward spiral leads to an unexplained event that changes all of their lives. They promise to never speak or see each other again until, 27 years later, fate forces them back together to confront these dark secrets. Players will get to shape the course of the storyline in 1995 and 2022.

Concord Open Beta Date

Firewalk Studios has announced the dates for the Concord open beta, as well as when players can get into the Early Access weekend before that. Both the open beta and Early Access beta will be available on PS5 and PC, with optional cross-play support able to bring players together on both platforms.

The Concord open beta and early access dates

The Concord open beta will begin on July 18, 2024, and will run until July 21. However, those who preorder any version of the game will get five codes for the Early Access beta that runs from July 12 to July 14. This allows them to bring along four friends for the first opportunity to get hands-on with the multiplayer shooter.

The beta weekends offer access to all 16 playable Freegunners that will be available at launch in August. These include Haymar, Vale, Lennox, 1-0FF, and Star Child who all appeared in the reveal trailer, as well as new characters like It-Z, Teo, and Bazz. Each has its own abilities, traversal, and gunplay feel to accommodate a range of playstyles.

The Early Access beta will have three game modes — Trophy Hunt, Cargo Run, and Clash Point. When the open beta begins the following weekend, a fourth Area Control mode will also become available:

  • Trophy Hunt: A respawn-based mode where you fight to take down members of the rival crew and collect their bounty cards to earn points for your team. The first team to reach the target score before time runs out wins the match.
  • Cargo Run: A no-respawn mode where teams compete to retrieve the Blue Buddy robotic package delivery system, plant it at one of the zones, and defend it from the rival crew to win.
  • Clash Point: A round-based, no-respawn game mode where teams compete to control a single capture zone at a central location on the map.
  • Area Control: A respawn mode where teams compete to control multiple capture and control zones around the map. Control two or more zones to increase your team’s score and reach the point threshold to win.

Four maps will be in rotation during the Early Access beta. Freewater is a fortified outpost on the planet of Glance with a large central area and perimeter lanes. Water Hazard is a large floating fishing rig on the water-covered planet of Leviathan with a captured Morack as its centerpiece. An ancient observatory atop the tallest mountain on the planet Gloom is the setting for Star Chamber, while Shock Risk takes place beneath a massive conductive kite in the sky that harvests lightning on the planet Leviathan.

Finally, when the open beta begins, a fifth map will be added to the collection; Bone Mines is set amidst mining caverns and the skeletal remains of massive vastadons on Akkar.

Star Wars: Bounty Hunter Remaster Release Date

Aspyr Media has announced they are collaborating with Lucasfilm Games to bring a remaster of the original 2002 game Star Wars: Bounty Hunter to PS5 and PS4, with the release date coming soon. The remaster will include improved graphics, a new flashlight tool, and a new easter egg.

The Star Wars: Bounty Hunter PS5 Release Date

The new version of Star Wars: Bounty Hunter will be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on August 1, 2024. Preorders for the game are available today and those who grab the game before August 1 will get a 10% discount off the normal price of $19.99.

The third-person action-adventure game puts players in the role of Jango Fett, the most feared Bounty Hunter in the galaxy. His aim is to capture a deranged Dark Jedi using a range of weapons and tools, while also ridding the galaxy of plenty of other galactic scum.

One of the bigger differences between the remaster and the original game is the addition of a new easter egg. The original game included a “very low-resolution texture” that had a message written in Aurebesh encouraging players to “Cash in all bounties to play as Boba.” The problem was that Boba Fett wasn’t included in the game so even a 100% save file could only play as Jango Fett. However, in the remaster players can now equip the Boba Fett skin after they have completed the campaign.

The improved graphics include dynamic lighting, a new flashlight for darker areas, and better environment textures that include bump maps. Meanwhile, PS5 players can make use of DualSense features like adaptive triggers for weapon feedback, voice comms through the controller’s speaker, and a visual indicator of Jango’s current health status through the lightbar display.

Jet Set Radio Remake

Several leaks that purport to be from an internal SEGA presentation suggest that there is an unannounced Jet Set Radio remake in development alongside the previously announced reboot. The same rumors are also describing the reboot as a free-to-play game, although SEGA is yet to confirm any of this information.

Will there be two new Jet Set Radio games?

The latest rumors claim that there is a remake of the original Jet Set Radio game on Dreamcast and that it is unrelated to the game that was announced last December. As reported by Twitter user Senhorita Kazzy, the remake will supposedly be “an open world remake with new additions.”

The information was accompanied by screenshots that other players were struggling to tie in with the Dreamcast game. Apparently, the game is being made in Unreal Engine 5 and “this is why the screenshots look much different from the original game.”

Another Tweet purported to show slides from an internal SEGA presentation revealing the publisher’s plans for the two games. The unannounced remake will supposedly “raise awareness” of the franchise and is planned to be released in January 2026. After the remake is released, SEGA can then “expand into the F2P [free-to-play] market” with the game that has already been revealed, which will apparently be “an accessible action game.”

All of this information is sourced from Midori, an alternative Twitter account run by Persona leaker MysticDistance. While his reputation has been questioned lately, the information has been backed up another leaker. Twitter user Komajiro then posted another slide that had more details about the remake. The game is still located on Tokyo Island and features multiple teams of Rudies, only this time they’re battling for possession of a mysterious black book.

It’s worth mentioning that even if the slides are from a SEGA presentation, they’re several months old. The one slide mentions that more information on the free-to-play game would be released internally in June 2023. As such, bear in mind that this is old information that could be completely incorrect by now, so take these details with a healthy dose of salt.
