Pedro Pascal Didn’t Finish The Last of Us to Avoid Too Much Imitation

The Last of Us HBO series actor Pedro Pascal, who plays Joel, has revealed that he hasn’t finished the game because he didn’t want to imitate Troy Baker’s version of the character too much. In an interview with GQ, Pascal said that he found The Last of Us as well as Joel very impressive but wanted to create a “healthy distance” between himself and the in-game character.

Pascal told GQ that the upcoming show will honor the franchise but will also have original ideas. “There’s a very, very creative way of honoring what’s important and also preserving what is iconic to the experience of the video game, and also [to include] things that you wouldn’t necessarily expect,” he said. “And then directions that you would expect it to go, and it might not… they’re doing some really smart things, is all I can say.”

As far as the video game is concerned, Pascal revealed that he isn’t skilled enough to play but watched his nephew go through the experience. “It was only a matter of minutes before I had to hand it over to my nephew,” Pascal continued. “It really takes a specific kind of skill, and I don’t have it. I found Joel so impressive — I found the whole of it such a visually impressive experience. And then I got worried that I would want to imitate too much, which I think could be right in some circumstances, and then a mistake in others.”

HBO still hasn’t dated The Last of Us, only confirming that it won’t air in 2022.

In other news, the next Need for Speed game will reportedly combine anime aesthetics with photorealism, and CD Projekt RED insists that The Witcher 3’s next-gen versions aren’t in any kind of development hell.
