Crazy Taxi Jet Set Radio Reboot

SEGA’s Super Game Idea Supposedly Includes Reboots of Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi

SEGA’s “Super Game” idea is to turn some of its brands into global hits by combining them with online functionality and other media. Some of SEGA’s existing IPs, including those that had been dormant for quite a while, will be the main focus. According to the latest rumor, two of those dormant IPs are Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi, and both are supposed to be getting a “big-budget” reboot.

Both Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi are set to be the first reboot titles released under SEGA’s Super Game plan. While both games are still in the early stages of development and could still be canceled according to sources speaking to Bloomberg, the Crazy Tazi reboot has been in development for more than a year already. The aim is that the game is to be released within the next 2-3 years. Both franchises were among those mentioned for a potential revival back when SEGA revealed their initiative a year ago.

SEGA is looking toward games like Fortnite as inspiration for the Super Game plan. There are several features of the game that have turned it into a blockbuster, such as its free-to-play element, its large e-sports community, and its availability on many different platforms including consoles, PC, and mobile. There are also its monetization options, which focus on special limited-time events and crossovers that spur players to spend more money. While SEGA has ventured into the free-to-play online arena with Phantasy Star Online 2, its monetization offerings haven’t brought the cash rolling in and SEGA wants to improve its performance in this area moving forward.

In other news, Amy Hennig’s Skydance New Media studio is working on another Star Wars game in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. The game will feature “an original story in the legendary Star Wars galaxy”. Elsewhere, Battlefield 2042 update 4.0 has brought along more than 400 fixes and improvements.
