A Netflix TV show based on the Horizon series has reportedly been shelved (for the time being at least) as its showrunner has been accused of toxicity and bullying. The show was supposed to be helmed by Umbrella Academy’s Steve Blackman, who has denied the allegations.

Netflix’s Horizon TV show was announced in 2022

According to a report by Rolling Stone, Blackman faces the aforementioned allegations from at least twelve Umbrella Academy staffers. He allegedly engaged in a variety of “manipulative and retaliatory behavior,” including but not limited to firing a writer for taking maternity leave because he felt “ripped off.”

Although Blackman has denied the allegations, Rolling Stone reports that his Horizon and Orbital projects, both of which reportedly came in a development deal worth $50 million, will no longer be moving forward.

Blackman’s representatives have not specifically commented on the aforementioned projects, but have claimed that he has an ongoing relationship with the streaming giant and “continues to work on new projects” for it. However, a Netflix representative declined to comment.

It’s unclear if PlayStation Productions and Netflix will find a new showrunner. The Horizon TV show was announced in 2022 along with God of War and Gran Turismo TV adaptations. No further details have been shared.

Sony has teamed up with Spin Master to launch a new range of collectible figures based on PlayStation Studios franchises. Dubbed the PlayStation Shapes collection, the figures include Aloy and Varl from Horizon: Forbidden West, Kratos and Atreus from God of War, and Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima.

When will the Shapes Collection figures be released?

The figures from the Shapes Collection will start shipping from the PlayStation Gear store on August 15, 2024, in Europe. The PlayStation Gear store for the United States currently has a placeholder shipping date of January 1, 2025; however, Sony’s Vice President of Network Advertising, Loyalty & Licensed Merchandise, Grace Chen, has said the figures will ship in August. All of the figures are available to pre-order now.

All five of the 6-inch adjustable figures have been created in collaboration with developers who worked on the games. Each has interchangeable accessories and can be posed in many different ways thanks to dozens of points of articulation.

Horizon’s Aloy is the most expensive of the five at $49.99. She has 42 points of articulation and 15 accessories that include interchangeable face plates, hands, a precision bow, spear, arrow, and quiver. Her companion Varl is priced at $29.99. He has 32 points of articulation and an unspecified number of accessories that include his axe and two sets of hands for various grips.

Kratos and Atreus from God of War are also $29.99 each. The former has 31 points of articulation and accessories like the Leviathan Axe and Blades of Chaos. Meanwhile, Atreus has 33 points of articulation and comes with a bow, arrow, and interchangeable hands.

Completing the collection is Ghost of Tsushima’s Jin Sakai. Also priced at $29.99, he has 32 points of articulation. His collection of accessories include his katana, tanto, mempo mask, and an additional sword.

Known leaker Kurakasis has claimed that Sony Interactive Entertainment is gearing up to announce Lego Horizon Adventures at an upcoming event. At the moment, we don’t know if this is a game or a Lego set, but reliable fellow leaker Tom Henderson claims it is indeed a new Horizon game.

Lego Horizon Adventures might be announced at the rumored PlayStation Showcase

Kurakasis, who has been spot on with their leaks lately, revealed the title on X today. They seem certain that Lego’s take on Horizon will be announced at a PlayStation event.

Following the tweet above, Henderson revealed on his publication Insider Gaming that Lego Horizon Adventures is “Horizon Forbidden West but Lego,” and features “realistic graphics.” There have been rumblings of several Horizon projects for a while, including a multiplayer game. Guerrilla Games previously said that it plans to expand the franchise.

A PlayStation Showcase is bound to happen sooner rather than later given the magnitude of leaks we’ve seen lately, including the PS5 Pro. We’ve also heard reports that Sony is gearing up to release “smaller” PS5 exclusives in 2024, including an Astro Bot game.

Could Lego Horizon Adventures be one of the said PS5 exclusives? We’ll find out in due course.

Guerrilla Games‘ Horizon Forbidden West has seen a sharp increase in sales, thanks to its PC launch on March 21. According to Circana’s Mat Piscatella, the game was one of the U.S. market’s top ten best-selling titles during the week ending March 23, which is quite a feat considering Horizon Forbidden West wasn’t even among the top 100 a week prior.

Last official Horizon Forbidden West sales update came in April 2023

Horizon Forbidden West, which released on the PS5 and PS4 in February 2022, had sold 8.4 million copies by April 2023. That’s according to an official update by Sony. There haven’t been any updates since. That the game went from not being in the top 100 to entering top 10 indicates that Horizon Forbidden West sold quite well on PC.

In June last year, documents leaked during Microsoft’s court battle over the Activision Blizzard deal revealed that both Horizon Forbidden West and The Last of Us Part II cost over $200 million to develop. Analysts estimated that with marketing and retailer cuts accounted for, both games made millions in profit.

However, Sony recently indicated that it considers PlayStation division’s profit margins to be somewhat of a problem overall, and it wants to release more exclusives on PC.

For those who’ve been gearing up for the Complete Edition of Horizon Forbidden West, the hardware specifications for PC have been now been revealed. It also looks as though some thought has been put into making the game compatible on less powerful systems.

From “very low” to “very high”

A recent post on the PlayStation Blog gives a rundown on what you’ll need to run the upcoming edition of Horizon Forbidden West. The Complete Edition is set to launch on PC in a couple of weeks.

The post goes on to say that efforts have been put into place to make the game run on a “wide variety of PC hardware,” which includes “portable gaming devices.” This means the specifications range from “very low” to “very high.” They are as follows:

Looking at the table, some may take comfort in the fact that they can utilize an Intel i3 or AMD equivalent processor. Additionally, the game will run on a 4GB Nvidia GTX or AMD Radeon RX graphics card.

However, even for medium settings, you will need at least a GPU from the previous generation. The blog post also says there are plenty of options to tweak the video settings.

According to journalist Jason Schreier, Guerrilla Games‘ Horizon multiplayer game isn’t among the PlayStation projects that Sony has canceled. A day ago, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced mass layoffs and closure of its London Studio. As part of the division’s cost-cutting and restructuring measures, a number of PlayStation games were canceled.

Horizon multiplayer game is apparently safe despite Guerrilla reportedly losing 10% of its employees

A report claims that Guerrilla Games has lost at least 10% of its staff. The exact headcount isn’t known, but Sony has confirmed that at least 900 employees have been let go across its gaming business. The company also confirmed that it canceled numerous projects, and according to Schreier, one of them is a Twisted Metal live service game.

An update on the Horizon game was provided by Schreier in response to a follower on Twitter who wondered if the game was among Sony’s live service misadventures. Apparently, it wasn’t.

A Horizon MMORPG was also thought to be in development at Korean comapny NCSoft. The fate of that project is unknown.

“PlayStation 5 is in its fourth year, and we are at a stage where we need to step back and look at what our business needs,” PlayStation Studios boss Hermen Hulst said of the cancellations and layoffs earlier this week.

Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition launches March 12 on Steam and Epic Games Store

Sony announced the PC release date for Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition with a trailer and PlayStation Blog post. Its PC features include unlocked frame rates and performance-enhancing technologies. The latter includes NVIDIA DLSS 3 upscaling and frame generation. The port also supports AMD FSR resolution and frame rate upscaling and Intel Xe Super Sampling and features Nvidia DLAA. Additionally, the port uses DirectStorage for faster loading times on PC.

The PC version of Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition features both controller and mouse and keyboard support. Both are heavily customizable as the game takes advantage of Steam Input remapping. However, the developers encourage players to use a DualSense controller’s haptic feedback for the most immersive experience.

PC gamers can now pre-order Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition for $59.99 from Steam and The Epic Games Store. In addition to the base game, the Complete Edition includes the Burning Shores DLC, two outfits, and two weapons. It also includes a Resource Pack, the Apex Clawstrider Machine Strike Piece, and Exclusive Photo Mode pose and face paint. Additionally, players who link their Steam account to a PSN account get the exclusive Nora Legacy Outfit and Nora Spear. Finally, the publisher offers the Blacktide Outfit and Blacktide Bow as an exclusive pre-order bonus.

The first official look of Horizon Forbidden West‘s Complete Edition is here, offering up the first look at the game on PC and some of its bigger performance boosts.

The new trailer is brief, but highlights what fans can expect to see in the PC version of the game. This includes support for NVIDIA’s DLSS 3 and DLAA, which will add both AI-enhanced performance boosts and AI-enhanced image quality. The game’s PC version will also include support for NVIDIA Reflex, which will present the game with significantly improved low latency as well.

The rumored Horizon MMORPG in development at Korean company NCSoft seems all but confirmed as fans have uncovered some compelling evidence of its existence. This is apparently a different project than the Horizon multiplayer game previously confirmed by Guerrilla Games.

NCSoft’s Horizon MMORPG has been rumored for a year

Sony Interactive Entertainment only recently announced its partnership with NCSoft but rumors of a Horizon MMORPG have been swirling since November 2022. Korean publication MTN reported on a partnership between the companies at the time, but it wasn’t until the weekend that Twitter user Kurakasis found and compiled evidence from employee profiles and job advertisements that corroborated MTN’s report.

The MMORPG is code named Skyline Project and has been in development since at least 2021. As of December 2023, the project is still in existence as evidenced by the screenshot of a job description shared in the tweet above.

Interestingly, the evidence uncovered so far only makes reference to PC and mobile versions of the rumored game. While this doesn’t necessarily mean that a PS5 version isn’t in development, it’s possible that Sony’s making a multiplayer game for the PS5 separately than a PC/mobile MMO. It’s also possible that another developer — not NCSoft — has been tasked with the PS5 MMORPG.
