BioShock 1 and The Darkness fans are getting their hopes up after the discovery of an unannounced 2K remake in the works. The revelation comes from the LinkedIn profile of Brett Shupe, a motion capture animator at 2K.

BioShock 1 and The Darkness considered prime candidates for a remake

As spotted by MP1st over the weekend, Shupe’s now-edited profile mentioned that he’s worked on an upcoming Mafia game, the new BioShock game, a canceled Supermassive Games project code named Erebus, a new 2K sports title as well as an unannounced non-sports title, and last but not least, “an upcoming unannounced remake.”

That last bit above has generated quite a bit of excitement. Fans are speculating that the original BioShock is possibly being remade from the ground up to drum up interest in the series ahead of BioShock 4. The infamous (and accurate) Nvidia leak did mention a BioShock remaster, and fans believe that 2K may have switched to a remake considering we already have a 2016 collection of the BioShock trilogy.

However, there’s some hope that a remake of The Darkness is in the works as Nightdive CEO has previously hinted at bringing the game back to life. Some folks are even rooting for Spec Ops: The Line!

Noticing all the chatter, Shupe edited his profile and scrubbed any mention of the canceled Supermassive Games project as well as the unannounced remake. However, screenshots of his profile are already making rounds.

If there’s one thing this generation is lacking, it’s enough first person shooters. Luckily Digital Extremes are hard at work on a new shooter, as we’ve uncovered a job listing that states:

We are deeply absorbed in the development of yet another super secret, hugely anticipated, and very prestigious AAA 1st person shooter, and you could join our team and be involved!

Meanwhile, another job listing suggests that it could be a next gen game:

Provide direction for the code architecture of a next-gen game engine

DE is also working on a third person adventure game based on Star Trek, but we’re most interested in this “super secret” FPS. The Darkness II didn’t exactly set the charts on fire, so it does seem unlikely for the game to see a sequel, but it certainly isn’t out if the equation. Unreal Tournament, meanwhile, used to be a shining beacon of what the Unreal Engine was capable of, routinely selling over a million copies.

Normally, having light on the path ahead is a good thing, but it’s just the opposite when you’re infused with a demonic power known as the Darkness. Unfortunately for Jackie Estacado, his new worst enemies are well aware of that fact.

The Darkness II is doing what any good sequel does – upping the ante by adding new challenges and scenarios, while fine tuning the core elements that made the original a fun game. We’ve already seen how Jackie’s dark powers are being given a major booster with quad wielding, but it wouldn’t be any fun unless tougher enemies are in the way to use them on. While the mob from the original was basically fodder standing in the way of Jackie’s demonic tentacles, his new foes are far more prepared for the battle at hand. The Brotherhood is coming for Jackie, they want his powers, and they know his weaknesses as can be seen while the wield not only guns, but lamps and flashlights too. Digital Extremes has released a new trailer, where a shifty little man gives us some insight on the Brotherhood, and how they’re a force to be reckoned with.

The Darkness II is seeing some serious improvements in what seems to be every aspect of the game. The new artistic direction, improvements to combat, and new enemies with upgraded combat strategies all make make it stand out in the ever flooded FPS category. It looks like the Brotherhood will be no pushover, and that should make it all the more glorious when bringing brutal violence to their midsections with demon arms and darklings at our side.

The Darkness II is currently scheduled to engulf stores in February 2012.
