Bloodborne PS5 PC ports discussed

PS4 emulator ShadPS4 has made some progress with Bloodborne on PC. Its makers have managed to emulate the game’s graphics on the platform, and although they’ve only gotten as far as navigating the main menu, this is considered a breakthrough in light of previous attempts.

Fans hopeful that PS4 emulator will be able to run a playable build of Bloodborne on PC

As shared on ResetEra, a video of ShadPS4 loading into Bloodborne’s menu on PC was uploaded by one George Moralis on YouTube. Moralis’ GitHub profile shows that he has been actively working on ShadPS4.

Apparently, previous attempts at emulating Bloodborne didn’t go too far, with issues surrounding sound and graphics.

Considering how dedicated the emulation community is, we won’t be surprised if a fully playable build of Bloodborne was available on PC in the near future.

All of this seems like a missed opportunity for Sony, who has inexplicably ignored repeated requests to bring one of PS4’s best exclusives to modern platforms. FromSoftware has largely steered clear of the discourse surrounding Bloodborne, but has made it clear that it wouldn’t mind opening up the IP to a new audience.

However, the decision to do so lies with IP owner SIE.

FromSoftware Kadokawa hack

FromSoftware’s owner, Kadokawa, recently suffered a massive hack. The ransomware attack has disrupted multiple of the company’s subsidiaries and claims to have downloaded 1.5 terabytes of data.

Did FromSoftware have confidential information stolen in the hack?

It’s unclear to what degree FromSoftware was directly affected by the hack. The Black Suit Ransomware group claims to have accessed Kadokawa’s entire network. However, its primary target appears to have been the Japanese video-sharing service Niconico, which is down until June 8, with partial disruptions to Kadokawa’s book distribution. Therefore, it’s possible that the Elden Ring developer got away unscathed.

Kadokawa issued a statement addressing the attack but did not mention whether FromSoftware was affected by the hack. It did, however, confirm that the breach occurred on June 8. The stolen data reportedly includes both employee and customer information. Other stolen data reportedly includes project information, business plans, financial records, contracts, and legal documents.

While stolen user data is concerning, the company assured customers that their credit card information is secure. “Kadokawa does not retain any credit card information of the Group’s customers, including Niconico service users, in its system, and therefore, no credit card information will have been leaked,” it said. The company also says it is working with “external professional organizations” to investigate possible leaks. It expects the investigation to produce results in July and will make additional statements at that time.

As for the ransom, FromSoftware’s parent company has until July 1 to meet the hacker group’s demands. However, it’s unclear if Kadokawa will comply, given the possibility that the hackers might release the information regardless.

FromSoftware’s epic RPG goes from strength to strength as Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree hits a staggering sales figure in just a few days.

Shadow of the Erdtree takes Elden Ring to new heights

Bandai Namco and FromSoftware announced that Shadow of the Erdtree had sold five million units within its first three days of release.

This comes after the Elden Ring expansion became the highest-rated DLC of all time on Metacritic. Elden Ring alone was doing some fantastic numbers, but the chunky expansion is clearly bringing plenty back to the Lands Between.

Not that it’s all been sweetness and light for the expansion. Earlier this week, FromSoftware released Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC update 1.12.2 for “balance” and “calibration” following widespread complaints about the expansion’s difficulty. An official statement also addresses visual issues on PC after the expansion ended up being review bombed on Steam for its performance and difficulty spike.

FromSoftware is also working on further balance adjustments and bug fixes, which will be rolled out in a future patch. Release window will be shared in due course.

An official statement also addresses visual issues on PC after the expansion ended up being review bombed on Steam for its performance and difficulty spike.

Elden Ring: Shdow of the Erdtree DLC update 1.12.2 patch notes (June 26, 2024)

Patch notes for today’s Elden Ring DLC update are as follows:

  • Attack and damage negation curve scaling of the Shadow Realm Blessings have been revised.
    • The attack and damage negation has been increased for the first half of the maximum amount of Blessing enhancements, and the second half will now be more gradual.
    • The attack and damage negation granted by the final level of Blessing enhancements has been slightly increased.
  • [PC] If your framerate is unstable, please check in the ‘SYSTEM’ > ‘Graphics Settings’ > ‘Raytracing Quality’ settings from the title menu or in-game menu to check if it has been unintentionally set to ‘ON’. Once set to ‘OFF’, Ray Tracing will no longer be automatically enabled.

FromSoftware is also working on further balance adjustments and bug fixes, which will be rolled out in a future patch. Release window will be shared in due course.

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC difficulty

FromSoftware might have finally broken players’ resolve with Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC‘s difficulty level. The usual “git gud” brigade is having such a hard time with the content that the DLC has continuously been review bombed on Steam since its launch, with many complaining about a significant spike in difficulty level.

Bandai Namco responds to Elden Ring DLC difficulty controversy

Elden Ring DLC reviews on Steam range from negative to mixed, which is in stark contrast to critic reviews. This is particularly amusing because critics often come under fire for complaining about unfair difficulty spikes, giving birth to silly internet phrases like “game journo difficulty.” Well, the tables have turned and neither Bandai Namco nor FromSoftware have any plans to dial the challenge down.

Over on X, Bandai Namco called out folks complaining about difficulty:

In a new interview with The Guardian, FromSoftware boss Hidetaka Miyazaki said that dialling down Elden Ring’s difficulty would “break the game.” “Had we taken that approach, I don’t think the game would have done what it did, because the sense of achievement that players gain from overcoming these hurdles is such a fundamental part of the experience,” Miyazaki explained.

Elden Ring DLC’s difficulty is here to stay. Players will just have to “git gud.”

Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree has no trophies

Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree finally dropped yesterday, and PS5 players were quick to note that it came without a set of trophies. It is a tad unusual to see a major expansion launch without trophies, but trophy hunting remains a niche activity among PlayStation players.

Lack of Elden Ring DLC trophies apparently a dealbreaker for a small group of PS5 players

Threads popped up on sites like ResetEra and PSNProfiles decrying the lack of Shadow of the Erdtree trophies. While a large number of players have said that their decision to purchase the expansion isn’t impacted by the move, others have said that they’ll either move on to something else or wait for a sale.

“How is it in 2024 a huge 30-40 hour expansion pack is released with no trophies/achievements,” one user complained on ResetEra. “Is this even allowed?” “Wild that people don’t want to play this (probable) masterpiece because of no trophies,” wrote a PSNProfiles user. “At the end of the day, not adding trophies/achievements do nothing but void a potential sale for those that enjoy getting them,” opined another user.

We doubt Shadow of the Erdtree’s sales will be impacted by the DLC not having trophies and achievements, but we’re certainly curious to know why FromSoftware opted against them.

Bloodborne PS5 PC ports discussed

FromSoftware‘s Hidetaka Miyazaki has said that the studio would love a Bloodborne PC port (or even a PS5 remake) but it’s not in his hands and it’s “not his place to talk.” One can’t help but feel a bit sorry for Miyazaki as he continues to be quizzed about the game, only for him to reiterate that there’s nothing that he can personally do.

PS5 and PC players puzzled by Until Dawn remake as Sony ignores Bloodborne requests

In a somewhat bizarre move, Sony has decided to offer PS5 and PC players a remake of Until Dawn, which we have yet to see fans request. What players have requested repeatedly, however, is either a Bloodborne remake or a sequel.

Speaking to PC Gamer, Miyazaki said he’s not the only one who would love to see Bloodborne reach more players. Apparently, FromSoftware devs are all on board. Miyazaki stopped short of saying anything else, adding that he’ll “get in trouble” for doing so. But it’s pretty obvious that IP owner Sony is the one that gets to decide the future of Bloodborne.

“I know for a fact these guys want a Bloodborne PC port,” Miyazaki said. “If I say I want one, I’ll get in trouble as well. But it’s nothing I’m opposed to.”

Best PlayStation games (Bloodborne)

Sony is polling players on their favorite PlayStation games, and the list it provided undoubtedly includes some of the best PS4 and PS5 titles. However, one game is curiously missing from the list: Bloodborne. The move certainly didn’t go unnoticed, with fans wondering what’s prompting Sony to pretend that the hit FromSoftware PS4 exclusive doesn’t exist.

Bloodborne is widely regarded as one of the best PlayStation exclusive games to date

The poll, which the official Sony Group account ran on Twitter, includes the following games from both the PS4 and PS5 generations:

  • Uncharted 4
  • The Last of Us Part 1
  • Death Stranding
  • Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  • God of War Ragnarok
  • Demon’s Souls (PS5)
  • The Last of Us Part 2
  • Horizon Forbidden West
  • God of War (2018)
  • Gran Turismo 7
  • Returnal
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
  • Spider-Man 2
  • Ghost of Tsushima
  • Horizon Zero Dawn

One can argue that there are quite a few beloved games that didn’t make the list, but the absence of what is regarded as one of the best PlayStation exclusives of all times is pretty noticeable. A quick look at the responses to Sony’s tweet is evidence of this.

For now, fans continue to hold out hope for a Bloodborne sequel.

Hidetaka Miyazaki Talks Future FromSoftware Souls Games

FromSoftware‘s Hidetaka Miyazaki has said that he wants other developers to direct the studio’s future Souls type games. In a recent interview with IGN Nordic, Miyazaki said that there’s a “high possibility” he will delegate his traditional role of director to someone else going forward.

Why Miyazaki wants fresh faces to direct future FromSoftware Souls games

Miyazaki told IGN Nordic that not only does he want to delegate responsibilities of a director in the future, he also wants to step away from a supervisory role. He’s of the view that this is the best way forward for fresh talent to “flourish” when it comes to “Souls-ish” games.

“I think it’s very likely that we’ll see new directors going forward,” Miyazaki said. “And I think if we do that, I’d like to step away from that supervisory role and give them full direction and full control over those projects. I think really this is the best way and the easiest way for them to flourish within that environment and with those new projects.”

Elsewhere, Miyazaki said that FromSoftware is able to release massive, successful AAA games like Elden Ring relatively quickly because the studio is “blessed with great staff” that’s “efficient at creating games.”
