Ghost of Tsushima PC release was May’s best-seller according to Circana

Sucker Punch Productions’ Ghost of Tsushima was a big hit when it launched for PS4 in 2020 and PS5 the following year. A primarily single-player game won’t expect to see a huge resurgence four years on, but the Ghost of Tsushima PC port has given it a new lease on life. According to market research company Circana, the Steam release helped it become May’s best-selling full-priced game in the US.

How well did the Ghost of Tsushima PC port do?

The announcement of Ghost of Tsushima’s PC success comes from Circana Executive Director Mat Piscatella, who shared some stats on Twitter. The open-world action game was number one in dollar sales, edging out Nintendo’s Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake. He didn’t provide an exact dollar amount or number of units sold. However, the website PlayTracker estimates that around 612,000 players own the game on Steam. The same source reports that the PC port saw an all-time peak of over 53,000 players, with Steam DB reporting a peak of over 77,000.

As stated above, the newly released Thousand-Year Door remake came in second behind Ghost of Tsushima. They were followed by Modern Warfare III, Helldivers II, and MLB the Show 24, rounding out the top five.

Circana’s complete list of the top 20 best-selling premium games in the US is below. Note that states for Paper Mario, MLB: The Show, and Mario Kart 8 do not include digital sales on Xbox and Switch.

 1. Ghost of Tsushima
 2. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
 3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III
 4. Helldivers II
 5. MLB: The Show 24
 6. Sea of Thieves
 7. Minecraft
 8. Elden Ring
 9. Hogwarts Legacy
 10. Stellar Blade
 11. Fallout 4
 12. EA Sports FC 24
 13. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
 14. Homeworld 3
 15. Mario Kart 8
 16. Madden NFL 24
 17. Rise of the Ronin
 18. F1 24

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess Okami Items

During the Capcom Next show, the publisher released a demo for Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess that allows players to unlock Okami tie-in items. By working together and completing a challenge, the Okami collaboration weapons and costumes can be unlocked for free in time for the game’s release later this month.

How to get the Okami items for free

The Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess demo offers several early stages from the main game that can be replayed as many times as wanted. While doing this, players have to collaboratively complete two challenges across PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. The deadline for completing these is 3:59 BST on July 18, 2024, when the demo will be removed from the PlayStation Store.

The first challenge is to exorcise the defilement or the Seethe to drop a total of one billion crystals in the demo. Completing this will unlock Amaterasu’s Soh costume and the Thunder Edge weapon.

The second challenge is to find 15 of the hidden Lucky Mallets. Those who find the mallets must then take a photo of their achievement and post the picture as a reply to the campaign post on X (formerly Twitter). Completing this will unlock Waka’s Yoshiro costume and a special Okami collaboration soundtrack. Knowing that Twitter integration has been removed from PlayStation and Xbox consoles, Capcom says that players can take a picture of their TV/monitor screen via devices such as smartphone if trying to transfer an image via the console’s photo-sharing feature is too cumbersome.

The game’s official website features a progress tracker for both challenges, although this doesn’t update in real-time. If the two challenge targets are met, the items will be delivered in a free title update at launch on July 19. Capcom didn’t specify what would happen if players didn’t manage to complete the challenge, although we assume the items will be available from the PlayStation Store at a later date.

Lost Records: Bloom & Rage delayed

Don’t Nod has delayed the release date of its upcoming narrative adventure Lost Records: Bloom & Rage to avoid the release of the next installment of Life is Strange. Life is Strange: Double Exposure is set to be released on October 29, 2024, and Lost Records’ new release date window will avoid this completely.

The new Lost Records: Bloom & Rage release date window

Lost Records: Bloom & Rage will now be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in early 2025, after the developer performed an “in-depth assessment of recent trends and developments in the industry.” The game will be released in two parts, with the second part to follow a month later. This means it is now avoiding its previously announced late 2024 release date window.

Don’t Nod’s CEO Oskar Guilbert said: “We know that many of our fans are eagerly awaiting this game, just as they are the recently announced next installment of Life is Strange. Let’s give both titles the space they need to be enjoyed by our players within the large community we have built. We firmly believe that the wait for Bloom & Rage will be worth it. We look forward to sharing this new adventure, which we hope will become another memorable chapter in the DON’T NOD universe.”

Bloom & Rage will be the first game in Don’t Nod’s new Lost Records universe. The game is set in the fictional town of Velvet Cove during the summer of 1995. Swann, Nora, Autumn, and Kat are four high school friends spending the summer together. Players assume the role of Swann, who films her friends through her camcorder.

However, a downward spiral leads to an unexplained event that changes all of their lives. They promise to never speak or see each other again until, 27 years later, fate forces them back together to confront these dark secrets. Players will get to shape the course of the storyline in 1995 and 2022.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Preview: A Little Somethin’ For Everyone https://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2024/06/11/dragon-age-the-veilguard-preview-bioware-ps5-xbox-pc/ https://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2024/06/11/dragon-age-the-veilguard-preview-bioware-ps5-xbox-pc/#respond Tue, 11 Jun 2024 19:56:39 +0000 https://www.playstationlifestyle.net/?p=905268 Dragon Age: Veil Guard has something to offer for both new fans and longtime veterans, though it runs the risk of being a bit too welcoming.

The post Dragon Age: The Veilguard Preview: A Little Somethin’ For Everyone appeared first on PlayStation LifeStyle.

]]>

As I sat down for one of EA‘s closed-door presentations of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, it didn’t take long for me to sense the excitement in the air. Despite this being a hands-off presentation of the game’s first hour, it was hard not to notice the plastered smiles and excited whispers coming from my fellow writers and content creators to the left and right of me. And this makes sense; it’s been a decade since players have gotten their hands on a new Dragon Age, and BioWare‘s other offerings over the past 10 years weren’t exactly slam dunks.

With the game’s director, Corrine Busche, guiding us through the first hour of the game, it became clear that the dev team was looking to open up the world of Dragon Age to all types of players, from more casual newcomers to those who logged countless hours across the franchise’s other titles. Of course, as you’d expect from most western RPGs at this point, the presentation kicked off with an overview of the character creator.

Your Character

Now, if I’m being honest, spending an hour or two obsessing over my character’s and eye color and facial scars is not something I normally place a lot of importance on, but I know I’m probably in the minority on that. To their credit though, BioWare looks to have spend a lot time and effort to craft a robust character creation system, even going so far as to make sure skin tones and hair styles look great throughout the course of your adventure.

“We wanted to make sure skin tones were well represented,” Corrine explained, “including the under hues that influence how our skin shows up under different lighting conditions, even controlling for levels of melanin.”

And I have to admit, the end result looked rather good, thanks in part to the ability to look at your character under several different lighting conditions representative of in-game locales and settings. It only took a few minutes to throw together a great looking character, and there are plenty of presets and randomizers at your disposal should you want to get into the game in as little time as possible.

Your Combat

While Dragon Age: The Veilguard only features three core classes (Rogue, Warrior, and Mage), Corrine explained that each one can pick from different specializations to better align with one’s intended playstyle.

“Each class has three bespoke and unique specializations that are really classes unto themselves. The duelist plays much different to the saboteur, who prefers to use gadgets, turrets and bombs. The Veil Ranger is my personal favorite [Rogue] specialization, as it prioritizes the bow arrow and can magically infuse arrows. Now, each of these specializations are unique per class, and are backed up by an incredibly robust skill tree which is also unique per class. It really allows you to customize and curate how you exist and how your gameplay experience plays out to your tastes.”

Admittedly, I was a bit surprised to see the combat adopting a stronger focus on action — if you’ve checked out any footage of the game in action, you’ll probably notice how the camera is a bit closer to your player, lending a more intimate feel that I normally associate with third-person action-adventure games. It’s a noticeable difference compared to say the first or second Dragon Age, but BioWare has taken some steps to provide options for those who prefer a slower-paced, strategic experience.

Sure, you can’t control your companions directly, but along with firing off abilities using more recognizable button combos, you can also use any of these abilities by pulling up an ability wheel. This completely pauses the game, which helps to slow down the sometimes frantic pace for those who would rather not deal with juggling their companions in real time.

Your Companions

If you’re a purist who’s worried that The Veilguard isn’t your grandfather’s Dragon Age, you’ll be delighted to hear that the battle-tested dialogue and companion system from previous games is back in full force. Completely separate from class or species, you’ll be able to select a backstory for your created character, which also unlocks new dialogue options that are unique to that background.

As you’d come to expect, being able to choose your own dialogue can have both short-term and long-term impacts, whether it’s affecting how specific plot arcs unfold, or influencing how your companions think about and treat you. For those of you who are far more in touch with Dragon Age’s lore than I am, you’ll probably get a kick out of seeing fan-favorites like Varric or Harding, who serve as your companions (along with a few other new characters).

While I’m by no means concerned, one niggling thought that I couldn’t get rid of was that The Veilguard might be trying to appease too wide of an audience, losing its uniqueness and core identity in the process. That being said, if there’s a studio capable of striking a careful balance like this, BioWare would be a top contender — and I’m certainly hoping that they are propelled back into the AAA game dev spotlight when Dragon Age: The Veilguard releases this fall.

PSVR 2 PC adapter

PlayStation VR2 owners will soon be able to use the virtual reality headset on their PC. The system’s PC adapter launches on August 7 and is compatible with games on Steam.

PSVR 2 comes to PC on August 7; price and system requirements revealed

Sony says the adapter will have an MSRP of $60, though users must purchase a separate DisplayPort 1.4 cable. Considering the PSVR 2 unit retails for $550, that brings the total up to $610 for the system and adapter. That’s about $110 more than the Meta Quest 3, so PC users will have to weigh the pros and cons of each system. However, PS5 users are the big winners here since they’ll be able to use the same headset and controller on PC and console.

The PSVR 2’s minimum requirements on PS are as follows:

 • Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit / Windows 11 64-bit
 • Processor: Intel Core i5-7600 / AMD Ryzen 3 3100 (Zen 2 or later)
 • RAM: 8 GB or more
 • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 or later / NVIDIA RTX series / AMD Radeon RX 5500XT or later / AMD Radeon RX 6500XT or later
 • DisplayPort 1.4
 • Bluetooth 4.0 or later

Players will also need a Steam account to play games with the PSVR 2 on PC.

Sony also notes that users will experience differences when playing on PC compared to PS5. The following PSVR 2 features are not available on PC:

 • HDR
 • headset feedback
 • eye tracking
 • adaptive triggers
 • haptic feedback (other than rumble)

PC-only users in particular should keep that in mind when deciding which system suits them best.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut launches on PC at 8:00 a.m. PT/11:00 a.m. ET on May 16. That includes Steam Deck and similar devices. However, handheld and PC users will be fighting alone.

Ghost of Tsushima supports multiplayer on PC, but not Steam Deck

Sony and Sucker Punch Productions laid out the Steam Deck situation in a blog post on Steam. “You may notice that Steam marks the game as ‘Unsupported’ for Steam Deck,” it explains. “This is due to the Legends co-op multiplayer mode requiring Windows to access PlayStation Network integrated features.” However, the rest of Ghost Of Tsushima is fully optimized to work with the Steam Deck and other handheld PCs. This also applies to the Iki Island expansion, included in the director’s cut.

Released on PS4 in 2020 and PS5 in 2021, Ghost of Tsushima casts players as samurai Jin Sakai during the Mongol invasion of Japan in 1274. Players can choose to engage enemies in the open as a samurai or pick off the numerically superior enemies using the ninja tactics of the titular Ghost. The Iki Island DLC sees Jin travel to the titular island to confront a Mongol warband poisoning the people of Tsushima.

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is a standalone co-op experience inspired by Japanese folklore. Players choose between four classes and team up to take on one of four modes. While Steam Deck players won’t be jumping into Legends, other PC users will have full access. Cross-play is still in beta, so PC players will need to invite PlayStation users over via their PSN friends list specifically.

Helldivers 2 Play Solo Single Player

Playing Helldivers 2 solo is a unique challenge, diverging from the game’s core design as a cooperative multiplayer experience. If you’re inclined to tackle the game’s formidable enemies and intricate objectives in single-player, here’s what you need to know.

How to play Helldivers 2 solo

Helldivers 2 Solo Matchmaking Settings

While Helldivers 2 is inherently designed for group play, with missions that scale in complexity and difficulty, playing solo is not impossible.

To set up a Helldivers 2 solo game:

 • Navigate to the game’s menu and locate the options section.
 • Look for the setting for Matchmaking Privacy.
 • By default, this is set to Public, meaning anyone can join your game.
 • Change this setting to Friends Only.

This effectively turns off matchmaking, meaning you’ll launch on each deployment solo unless you specifically invite friends to your party.

Is there a Helldivers 2 single-player mode?

There isn’t a single-player mode or campaign in Helldivers 2. The game was made so that players can deploy together online, working together to fight alien threats that put humanity in danger. Because there isn’t an official single-player campaign, those who play alone must complete the same tasks and deal with the same difficulty level as troopers who play with others. No changes are made to make the game easier or harder for single players.

The only way to play Helldivers 2 by yourself is to change your Matchmaking Privacy settings, which is more of a workaround. This lets you play alone, but the game’s concept and goals make it clear that you should work with a squad. However, even if you’re playing Helldivers alone, talking to other solo players in the community can help you figure out how to handle the game’s tasks independently.

Taking on Helldivers 2 by yourself is a unique and challenging way to play the game. Solo play is a fun, if difficult, opportunity to improve your skills or a great way to enjoy the solitude of playing alone.

Helldivers 2 friend request not working bug fix

Some Helldivers 2 players are hitting a snag with the friend request feature not working. This bug has been a pesky hurdle for those looking to team up and tackle the game’s challenges together. Fortunately, there are some fixes for the Helldivers 2 friend request bug, which we’ll discuss below.

Is there a fix for the Helldivers 2 friend request not working bug?

Helldivers 2 friend request tab

A lot of players have had trouble with the Helldivers 2 bug, where friend requests don’t work. This problem usually shows up when you try to use cross-play. While this function should make it easy for PS5 and PC users to play together, there seems to be a problem between some users. Additionally, the bug can also happen to people who are using the same software. However, it seems to occur less frequently.

Several things could be causing this problem. Players with invalid names, especially those with special characters that don’t follow the rules for naming characters in games, can stop the friend request process in its tracks. Furthermore, problems on the server can stop friend requests from being sent or accepted, leaving players stuck and unable to join.

To tackle the Helldivers 2 friend request bug, follow these steps:

 1. Check and Modify Your Username: Make sure your username is between 3 and 16 characters long and doesn’t have any special characters. Making this small change can sometimes make it easier to connect with friends.
 2. Restart Everything: Not just the game—make sure to close any related background applications as well. Additionally, restart your console or PC and your router and modem. A fresh start can often rectify the issue.
 3. Patience is Key: You should be patient if these steps don’t immediately rectify the problem. The developers at Arrowhead Game Studios may be working on a fix. They are known for being involved with the community, so this annoying issue may be solved quickly. Keep an eye out for patches or hotfixes.

The Helldivers 2 team is continually updating the game, addressing bugs, and enhancing the player experience. With their track record, a solution to the friend request not working bug is expected to be on the way.
