Alaskan Road Truckers: Highway Edition does exactly what it says on the tin, challenging players with extreme weather, truck maintenance issues, and risky shortcuts as they try to make money as an Alaskan Trucker. Other simulators offer experiences such as a thief or, on the other end of the scale, members of the emergency services.

Bubble Bobble III makes its way to modern-day consoles more than 30 years after its initial release. With the aid of magical parasols, Bubby and Bobby must save their neighboring planets from an evil menace. Other notable games include the dungeon builder Naheulbeuk’s Dungeon Master and the visual novel True Colours – A Date With Deception.

Yet another AMD executive has stepped forward to claim that the PS4‘s success saved the component manufacturer from a financial disaster. Yesterday, the LinkedIn profile of a current senior director at AMD made rounds, in which he claimed that the company avoided bankruptcy due to its work with Sony. Now, a 19-year AMD veteran has corroborated the claim.

How PS4’s success averted a financial disaster for AMD

Phil Park, a performance architect at AMD, directly quote tweeted the viral thread that started the discussion yesterday. Park said that the original claim, made by 22-year AMD veteran Renato Fragale, was true to his knowledge.

According to Park, AMD took a hit during the 2008 financial crisis and had to sell “multiple” IPs to raise cash. Park also revealed that “most of us” took pay cuts. It’s unclear if he meant the entire AMD workforce or just senior level executives.

“The 2008 Global Financial Crisis put us in an incredibly bad position, especially after Intel’s recovery with Merom/Conroe/Woodcrest and Nehalem,” Park tweeted. “In 2013, the PS4/Xbox One were released which is what we needed for steady revenue to keep us afloat and invest in future products.”

Although Park mentions both the PS4 and Xbox One, Fragale’s LinkedIn profile specifically credits the PS4’s success.

PS4‘s success helped AMD avoid bankruptcy, according to a senior director at the component manufacturer. Renato Fragale, who has been at AMD for over 22 years now, made this significant claim in his LinkedIn profile, which is still up at the time of this writing.

The LinkedIn profile in question was first spotted by X user Timur222. Fragale, who has held numerous roles at AMD in a career spanning two decades, was a senior product development engineering manager at AMD when he helped lead the production of PS4’s tech.

According to Fragale, AMD’s work with Sony was “viewed as one of the most successful launches in AMD history, helping AMD to avoid bankruptcy.”

Fragale has since moved up the ladder, and is currently the senior director of OEM consumer and gaming client business.

AMD developed PS4’s semi-custom Accelerated Processing Unit (APU). Speaking to The Inquirer back in 2013, the company said that it was the most powerful APU that it had built back then.

“Everything that Sony has shared in that single chip is AMD, but we have not built an APU quite like that for anyone else in the market,” AMD famously said at the time.

During the Capcom Next show, the publisher released a demo for Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess that allows players to unlock Okami tie-in items. By working together and completing a challenge, the Okami collaboration weapons and costumes can be unlocked for free in time for the game’s release later this month.

How to get the Okami items for free

The Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess demo offers several early stages from the main game that can be replayed as many times as wanted. While doing this, players have to collaboratively complete two challenges across PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. The deadline for completing these is 3:59 BST on July 18, 2024, when the demo will be removed from the PlayStation Store.

The first challenge is to exorcise the defilement or the Seethe to drop a total of one billion crystals in the demo. Completing this will unlock Amaterasu’s Soh costume and the Thunder Edge weapon.

The second challenge is to find 15 of the hidden Lucky Mallets. Those who find the mallets must then take a photo of their achievement and post the picture as a reply to the campaign post on X (formerly Twitter). Completing this will unlock Waka’s Yoshiro costume and a special Okami collaboration soundtrack. Knowing that Twitter integration has been removed from PlayStation and Xbox consoles, Capcom says that players can take a picture of their TV/monitor screen via devices such as smartphone if trying to transfer an image via the console’s photo-sharing feature is too cumbersome.

The game’s official website features a progress tracker for both challenges, although this doesn’t update in real-time. If the two challenge targets are met, the items will be delivered in a free title update at launch on July 19. Capcom didn’t specify what would happen if players didn’t manage to complete the challenge, although we assume the items will be available from the PlayStation Store at a later date.

Kruger & Flint’s hardcore throwback shooter Bloodhound has spilled onto PlayStation consoles in all its gory glory.

In Bloodhound, the player takes on the role of a member of a secret faction of the Templar order, which must stop the demonic cult of the devilish Astaroth.

The gameplay refers to classic games, focusing primarily on dynamics and a high level of brutality. The creators point to inspiration from old shooters such as Doom, Quake and Painkiller. The style of the game mainly refers to various apocalyptic motifs.

In July 2023, the game debuted on PC, and later also received a free expansion – Juicy Retro Style!, thanks to which Bloodhound becomes a pixel boomer shooter. The update also improved gunplay and introduced additional story inserts. The PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions also include this DLC.

Elsewhere, third-person online co-op looter shooter The First Descendent will pit player-controlled Descendents against alien invaders taking over the planet of Ingris. There’s also The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak; the first game in the Trails Through Daybreak story arc finally makes its way west after a release in Japan two years ago.

The final season of Telltale Games’ Sam & Max series is back with a new look thanks to indie studio Skunkape Games. The studio announced the release date for Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse Remastered on Thursday. While the original was a PC and PlayStation 3 exclusive, the remaster is available on all current and last-gen platforms.

When is the Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse Remastered release date?

Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse launches for PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on August 14. Skunkape announced the remaster with a new trailer showing off the updated graphics. The studio also released a set of images demonstrating the improved lighting, shadows, and visual effects. The developers also fixed bugs, restored cut content, and overhauled many of the game’s environments. The remaster also features an improved user interface and new accessibility settings.

Originally released by Telltale Games in 2010, Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse sees the titular duo caught up in psychic shenanigans. It begins with the unhinged rabbit Max stumbling across a supernatural toy that gives him a vision of the future. Their search for the Toys of Power pits the Freelance Police against villains from across the galaxy.  “As those who seek the Devil’s Toybox close in and Max’s psychic abilities grow beyond his control,” says Skunkape, “the Freelance Police will come up against their most frightening adversary yet: the power of Max’s mind.”

The Devil’s Playhouse Remastered is the third Sam & Max remaster from Skunkape. Made up of former Telltale developers, it acquired the rights to the series following Telltale’s shutdown in 2018.

Developer Mintrocket announced the new First Anniversary Update for the action-adventure management game Dave the Diver, which recently made a splash on PS Plus. Version 1.0.1.62 introduces a new mini-game, new PSN profile avatars, and more.

What’s in the Dave the Diver First Anniversary Update?

The Dave the Diver update’s main attraction is the new Evil Factory demo mini-game. Players can unlock it for the in-game smartphone by calling the operator, choosing claim reward, and entering the code “DAVEANNIVERSARY.” Completing the Evil Factory demo unlocks the new Leo Keychain charm. Speaking of charms, the player can now decorate their in-game phone with a mini-Dave charm.

Meanwhile, Dave the Diver fans can also decorate their PlayStation Network profile with one of seven new avatars. Options include Dave, Cobra, head chef Bancho, staff recruiter Yoshie, and Momo the cat. Fans of the PS Plus game can unlock the avatars for free by entering one of the region-specific codes listed below.

Microsoft brought its open-world multiplayer pirate game Sea of Thieves to PS5 in March, alongside three other previously exclusive games. The game has so far seen significant success on the platform, dominating PS5 sales last month. Xbox Game Studios President Matt Booty commented on the port’s success in a recent interview.

How are Sea of Thieves PS5 sales doing?

Booty recently sat down for an interview with Variety’s Strictly Business podcast. The conversation covered topics ranging from Microsoft’s studio closures to the recent Xbox showcase. Sea of Thieves came up a few times during the interview, with Booty describing the company’s satisfaction with its PS5 release. “We have been really pleased with what we’ve seen on Sea of Thieves,” said Booty. He went on to say, “We saw an uptick in engagement on Xbox and on PC. So again, there’s this thing where you’ve got more people coming into the franchise, which causes more excitement, which actually grows the franchise overall.”

The Microsoft exec also revealed the proportion of PS4 and PS5 users interacting with Xbox and PC players. “Another really interesting encouraging stat is that about half the people that we saw playing on PlayStation were playing with people on other platforms. So, this is about expanding that community.” He attributed this to the work developer Rare put into making Sea of Thieves “best-in-class in terms of cross-platform play.”

“The other thing,” said Booty, “is it brought new players into Sea of Thieves, right… It was really great to see that it was bringing in new players that had never played Sea of Thieves before. I think we consider that a success.”
